Premium Chocolate Manufacturer: Temperature Monitoring at Distributors

A premium chocolate manufacturer uses Mindlabs to monitor temperature in its distributors' storage. Mindlabs Anchor records conditions around the clock, and when a reading leaves the 18–23°C range, the distributor's staff are alerted straight away so they can protect the stock on site.

About the Client

The client is a premium chocolate manufacturer whose products reach the market through distributors. Premium chocolate is judged on appearance and texture as much as taste, so the time products spend in distributor storage directly affects how they look when they reach the shelf.

Challenge

The Challenge

Chocolate shows heat damage

Stored too warm, cocoa butter migrates to the surface and forms fat bloom, a dull grey-white film. Swings between warm and cool cause condensation and sugar bloom. Both make a premium product look old.

Distributors are outside the factory's control

Distributor storerooms are run by distributor staff, so the manufacturer depends on them to keep conditions right.

Problems are found too late

With occasional manual checks, a warm storeroom can go unnoticed for hours or overnight, and the damage shows up only when the product reaches the shelf.

Stages

How Mindlabs Monitors Each Stage

  1. 1

    Continuous monitoring in distributor storage

    What we monitor
Temperature in each distributor's chocolate storage area, around the clock
    Device
    Mindlabs Anchor
    Recorded
Every reading time-stamped and sent to the Mindlabs cloud over 4G, 2G or Wi-Fi
  2. 2

    Excursion detected

    What happens
    A reading crosses 18°C or 23°C
    Recorded
Mindlabs logs the excursion with the location, reading and start time
  3. 3

    Distributor staff alerted

    What happens
The distributor's staff get an SMS and email alert at once

FAQs

FAQs

Chocolate should be kept at a stable, moderate temperature, away from heat and sudden changes. This manufacturer monitors its distributors' storage at 18–23°C. Always follow each product's storage instructions.
Fat bloom is a grey-white film that forms when chocolate gets too warm and cocoa butter rises to the surface. Sugar bloom forms when condensation dissolves surface sugar. Both are prevented by keeping storage stable and within range, which continuous monitoring confirms.
By installing a wireless data logger in each distributor's storage area. Mindlabs Anchor records temperature continuously and sends alerts to the distributor's staff the moment it leaves 18–23°C.
The distributor's own staff at that location, by SMS and email, so the people on site can move stock, fix cooling or close doors straight away.
